A huge drawback to entirely distributed versioning systems is that every version of every file (large or small) gets sent around the network as part of the "local copies" of the source tree. It is the workspace (client) feature of Perforce (along with the tuning of the Perfoce Server itself) that enables it to perform so well with large binary assets. As an aside, the mechanism for storing files in SVN is also not well suited to large binary files. Netapp, for our customers, is one of the ways they can choose to implement a high availability solution but does not provide additional file size capability. Information on planning a server implementation (including where best to put which files) can be found in the document in the link http://issuu.com/eswlab/docs/serverplan Please let me know if you require additional information on this or any other issue.
