Started by Marco Reyna, -- I was a CMS junky hanging out with a lot of them until I found Drupal. [Actually I found a career] http://DRUPAL.org For me DRUPAL is the ultimate site building and web-app building framework. I agree that it DOES have a pretty heavy learning curve but only because it is so powerful and flexible. In the almost 4 years since I adopted Drupal I have seen the Whitehouse, Nascar, Emmys, Grammys, MontyPython, BestBuyMobile, FCC, SBA, the House of representatives, and even 65 sites from the State Government of Georgia ALL choose Drupal as their solution. Main reasons I bet my whole career on Drupal: 1.. Powerful API [naming conventions of functions impacts workflow with whatever granularity you require] 2.. Awesome community means we go out of our way to see each other at national, international, and regional events; via USER GROUP meetings, DRUPALCONS, DRUPALCAMPS, etc. [I've been to 22 DrupalCamps in 3 years] 3.. ALL modules are FREE. We chose early on to NOT charge each other for our add-ons to Drupal's functionality. As a result we collaborate more and compete less. We patch each other's code and play very well together. This ensures that every one wins; especially the end users! 4.. Our project is lead by a very benevolent dictator named Dries Buytaert. He holds the commit keys but he delegates various other leads to be able to apply patches to the current version of DRUPAL until it looks like the next release. Last March we took our 2month old Drupal7 and created a branch that is slowly becoming Drupal8. [We don't have a committee that makes our choices for us nor do we have a company at the top of it all. We DO have the Drupal Association but they have no power over the code or the Drupal project. We also have ACQUIA but even though the Drupal Founder, Dries, is CTO there, Acquia still does NOT have any more influence than does any other Drupal Shop or individual] 5.. Drupal is a community of sharing the likes of which are UNSEEN in any other project. We are ALL about giving away the awesome code we write for or private clients. We're all about training anyone and everyone to do the same awesome stuff we're doing. We're all about building up the health and size of our developer and designer base. 6.. The DEMAND for Drupal right now is RIDICULOUS! Too many projects are choosing Drupal then changing their minds when they discover that it will be a while before any Drupal Shop can begin working on their project. Of course, low supply and high demand means that prices are high right now and that's another reason we lose some projects. L A S T P O I N T Not EVERY project is suitable for Drupal. I have seen some projects fail and some projects that were too simple for the powerhouse of Drupal. Joomla, Wordpress, etc. will ALWAYS be here. I simply don't see the competition going away. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I do believe that Wordpress and Joomla are trying very hard [with some success] to catch up to the awesomeness of Drupal. It's a friendly competition that spurs innovation and advancements in us all! - Doug Vann [Drupal Trainer, Consultant, Developer] - http://dougvann.com By Douglas Vann, Drupal TRAINER & DEVELOPER | | | Like · Flag | Job Discussions (18) | | | Don't want to receive email notifications?
