Email : rina@angelandgenie.com | | Started by Ahmed Reda, System Admin at Almasaood | | In 2007 I was part of a team that launched large social network site for a wealthy venture capitalist. The business plan around it was very flawed BUT the site itself was AWESOME! We started off in custom ASP.net and spent over 18months and a LOT of $$$ then when I came on board I talked them into an open source solution and switching to JOOMLA. But within 6weeks of starting to pursue JOOMLA we realized that we would still need to piece together 3 or more apps to get it done. We were looking at JOOMLA, V-Bulletin, and php-my-directory all squished together. We started accepting bids for a LOT of custom JOOMLA development when some one from the DRUPAL community got ahold of me. In our 1st phone call they explained that a LOT of what we wanted for our social networking site was already built into DRUPAL CORE and did not require custom work. They explained that DRUPAL was built from the ground up to be a social publishing system with infinite users and roles and permissions and easy to create content types and page renders. They further explained that the endless see of ALL FREE modules would handle much of the additional functionality that we required. So with Drupal Core and FREE Contributed modules we were able to get our site about 80% complete. The remaining 20% was custom and didn't take a lot of time. We launched the site within 73 days of the 1st time any one ever told me about DRUPAL! With the site launched and being awesome it quickly exposed the over-reaching flaws in the business plan. We shut down operations 7months later in September of 2008. By that time I was SOLD on Drupal and had already started a local DRUPAL users group in Indianapolis groups.drupal.org/indiana Now we're planning our 2nd DrupalCamp Indianapolis where we will charge no fees to gather over 200 ppl in our city to learn how they can gain or improve their Drupal skills and get their projects OR CAREERS moving. ALSO :::: Be sure to check out DRUPAL COMMONS which is a pre-built version of Drupal that contains most of the social networking features you will need. It is also FREE! http://drupal.org/project/commons Google around for DRUPAL COMMONS and see many videos about it. You can own the code and host it yourself OR let Acquia host and maintain the code. Either way is a great shortcut to getting your site up! That's my story! ;-) * Doug Vann [Drupal Trainer, Consultant, Developer] - http://dougvann.com By Douglas Vann, Drupal TRAINER & DEVELOPER | | Started by Andrés Ortega Montero, Onduty - IBM Tecnico de sistemas | | Started by Rina George, Recruitment Coordinator at Angel and Genie. Tizen will support multiple device categories, such as smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, netbooks, and in-vehicle infotainment devices. The Linux Foundation will host the project, where Tizen development will be completely open and led by a technical steering team composed of Intel and Samsung. Join the Tizen Group to stay in touch with all the Info regarding this new awesome Plateform: http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Tizen-4106650?trk=myg_ugrp_ovr The Tizen application programming interfaces are based on HTML5 and other web standards, and we anticipate that the vast majority of Tizen application development will be based on these emerging standards. These APIs will cover various platform capabilities, such as messaging, multimedia, camera, network, and social media. For those who use native code in their applications, the Tizen SDK will include a native development kit. We will open the entire Tizen software stack, from the core OS up through the core applications and polished user interfaces.
